Humbling week for the Scoop
Just when you think you’re unstoppable ...
The old Scoopster had a tough week, friends. A really tough week.
With my chest feathers puffed out and my beak high in the air, I was slapped back down by mediocrity.
The damage: 7-5.
Ugh.
But the good thing is I get another chance at redemption.
Here it goes. On to the picks:
Norwin 24, Butler 23 — I was so conflicted about this pick because I feel like Butler could escape Norwin with a victory in this one. But I skew a little toward the home team.
Seneca Valley 25, North Allegheny 23 — The Raiders kept me from a 6-6 week with a rousing comeback against Bethel Park.
It also showed me SV is legit.
New Castle 27, Knoch 14 — I feel for the Knights. They are scuffling right now and while I believe they can give New Castle a run, Knoch will fall short.
Mars 44, Ambridge 6 — The Planets had a worse week than I did. Hopefully, I’ll follow their example with a big showing this week.
Mars will be motivated to put that 48-10 loss to Thomas Jefferson out of its mind as fast as possible ... and it will.
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 28, Riverside 18 — No one is playing better football right now that Mario Latronica. The Trojans will ride the Latronica Train to victory.
Seton-La Salle 18, Freeport 16 — This should be an old-fashioned bruiser of a game featuring solid defense.
This is one of those games that could fall either way.
Karns City 34, Clarion 19 — In what is suddenly a KSAC Big Division game, the Gremlins are riding two running backs (Chandler Turner and Kaiden Powers) who are averaging more than 10 yards per carry.
Clarion-Limestone 24, Moniteau 21 — The Warriors lose a close one. Again, this could go either way.
Union/A-C Valley 14, Brookville 12 — The Falcon Knights desperately need this win.
They’ll eke one out.
Sharpsville 28, Slippery Rock 14 — The Rockets gutted one out last week against Sharpsville thanks to a QB sneak by Bailey Mertens for the winning touchdown.
Slippery Rock has shown glimpses. But Sharpsville should escape with a win.
Grove City 42, Fairview 16 — Can anyone slow down the Eagles’ explosive offense?
Short answer: No.
Kameron Patterson is putting up amazing numbers at quarterback this season for Grove City with 24 touchdown passes and only two interceptions.
He has a wealth of talent around him and the defense is quietly putting together a solid season.
It looks like 8-0 for the Eagles.
Sto-Rox 33, Summit Academy 19 — The Knights will try to get back on track after a loss last week.
Scoop is 54-19 this season. If he was a baseball team, that would be good.
