Toomey has slight lead, despite TrumpWASHINGTON — A new poll shows Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., beating Democratic challenger Katie McGinty despite his struggles with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.The poll conducted by Susquehanna Polling and Research showed Toomey with a 4-point lead over McGinty. But it also found that 36 percent of respondents said they felt Toomey would be a strong ally of Trump and Republicans as opposed to 24 percent who said he wouldn’t.In the wake of a leaked tape from 2005 that showed the Republican nominee making lewd remarks about women, Toomey called them “indefensible and appalling,” but wouldn’t rule out voting for Trump or endorsing him.“I had hoped that Donald Trump would persuade me to be an enthusiastic supporter, that had been what I’d hoped,” Toomey said. “But at this point, I remain unpersuaded.”

Producer disavows, can’t release tapes,/b>LOS ANGELES — Mark Burnett, the producer whose show “The Apprentice” made Donald Trump a television star, disavowed the presidential candidate, calling his campaign misogynistic and hateful.The producer, who has been under pressure in recent days to release footage that might reveal more unflattering words from Trump, said Wednesday in a statement that he has never supported the candidate. MGM Holdings Inc., which bought Burnett’s TV company last year, said it controls the rights to the program and has a duty to respect artists’ confidentiality.Trump, who is also a producer on the reality series, has been the focus of a hunt for more evidence of the candidate’s off-camera behavior.
