Man accused of threats, assault

LANCASTER TWP — A township man was arrested last week after allegedly threatening the lives of his family members and assaulting a police officer.

Kent C. Bowers, 66, is in Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail after an incident Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to Bowers’ house on Scott Ridge Road around noon for a report of a domestic disturbance, according to the criminal complaint.

Officers from the state police, Lancaster Township, Zelienople and Jackson Township departments responded.

Bowers’s wife told the officers that he had grabbed her by her shirt collar and threatened to kill her, as well as other family members at the house and his therapist. He allegedly was intoxicated and had a scalpel.

After the victims were escorted to safety, officers entered the house where he had barricaded himself in the master bedroom. He allegedly told them that when he was released from custody he “will finish what he set out to do,” according to the complaint.

During the his arrest he allegedly wrapped his legs around the legs of one of the officers and grabbed him by his vest in an attempt to tackle him.

He was taken for a psychiatric evaluation and was released Friday afternoon to be arraigned by District Judge Lewis Stoughton.

Bowers is charged with four counts of terroristic threats, one count of simple assault and one count of felony aggravated assault for attempting to tackle the officer.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next week in district court.
