Esther M. Hunter

Esther M. Hunter

Esther M. Hunter, 87, of Butler, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, to be with her Lord on Thursday at the Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.

She was born Jan. 24, 1929, the youngest of 10 children, in Unionville, the daughter of the late Chester and Nora Fleeger Weitzel.

Esther was a member of Unionville Presbyterian Church.

When Esther was 18 on Dec. 15, 1947, she married the love of her life, Robert G. Hunter Jr. They lived in Boston, Mass., for a short time where she worked at Salada Tea Company. Then they moved to Ohio, where their only daughter was born, and then moved back to Butler in 1967. In earlier years, she had worked at Mack's Chicken Farm, Grant's, Woolworth's, Jaffee's, The Dianna Shop and Troutman's in Butler. Esther loved to cook and bake and share her goodies. She enjoyed going to horse races, flea markets and bargain shopping with her coupon clippings.

When Esther's husband of 65 years died, a part of her went with him, and she was never the same because she missed her Bob so much. This year they will spend their 69th anniversary together in Heaven.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Esther had a very large family and loved them all, but three nieces and one nephew were her angels: Rae Weitzel, Bradene Kaltenbach, Lynda Zielinski and Gary Zanicky. Also, a special friend, Joe Marzullo, was a great help. They were there for her when she needed them the most, right up to the end. Esther is going to be so sadly and deeply missed by all her family and friends. She was a strong lady who fought right up till the end, until her body just couldn't fight anymore. We have lost this wonderful, loving caring lady but heaven has gained another angel.

Surviving are her daughter, Patricia (Matthew) Marzullo of Chicora; her grandchildren, Kyle Jacob McElravy and Kierstyn Jean (Alex) Davis; a brother, Braden L. Weitzel of Butler, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away Sept. 23, 2012, a sister and seven brothers.
