Woman stole from family

SUMMIT TWP — A Butler woman is accused of stealing more than $11,000 from her grandfather.

State police said Alicia M. Gregg, 30, drained the money from the victim’s checking account over a seven-month period ending in May.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Monday issued a felony arrest warrant for Gregg on a list of charges.

John Leinenbach, the defendant’s grandfather, notified authorities May 5 after discovering the fraudulent transactions in his checking account.

The investigation, according to court documents, revealed that Gregg, between Oct. 5 and May 4, made 33 separate withdrawals totaling $11,106.

Police said most of the unauthorized transactions were direct payments from the account toward her credit card. She also forged three checks and used Leinenbach’s bank debit card four times.

During the investigation, police spoke to the defendant, who admitted taking the money but claimed she had her grandfather’s permission, documents said.

The two had an “understanding,” according to a police affidavit, that she would pay him back. But she apparently failed to reimburse the victim.

Gregg is charged with three counts of forgery and one count each of theft and receiving stolen property, all felonies. She also is charged with two misdemeanor counts of access device fraud.

Court records showed that she is already awaiting trial on charges she forged a check from her dead grandmother’s bank account March 28.
