George E. Spithaler
George E. Spithaler, 93, of Zelienople, passed away Friday while under the care of VNA Inpatient Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Dec. 7, 1922, in Zelienople, he was the son of the late Elmer and Bertha (Richt) Spithaler.
George proudly served our country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked as a turn foreman for J&L Steel in the carpenter shop and retired in 1981 after 34 years of service.
George was a faithful member of the St. John's United Church of Christ. He was a former council member of Evans City Borough and a retired lifetime member of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Department. George also belonged to the American Legion Post 219, Harmony Masonic Lodge 429, Butler Caravan 14 and the New Castle Consistory. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. George will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Ada (Little) Spithaler, who he married on June 21, 1947; his daughter, Sandra Childs of Plymouth, Mass.; his son, Edward D. Spithaler and his wife, Carmen, of Saudi Arabia; his brother, David Spithaler and his wife, Edna, of Evans City; two grandchildren, Cody Childs of Newton, Mass., and Corey Childs of Portland, Maine; and his son-in-law, Terrance Doller.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Doller, and his brothers, Herman, Victor, Robert and Richard Spithaler.
SPITHALER — The family of George E. Spithaler, who passed away Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral ceremony at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. John J.
