Guided tours set at Preston ParkBUTLER TWP — Butler Township will offer guided tours of Preston Park, 415 S. Eberhart Road, at 1 p.m. Oct. 8.Preston Park volunteers will share history of the Preston estate and guide visitors to the park’s seven state “Champion” trees and other points of interest on the park grounds. The volunteers also will give tours of the buildings.Tours of the park will last about two hours and involve a moderate amount of walking. Church will host hiking seminarPROSPECT — Steve and Robin Cort and Doug McPhail will present a hiking seminar, “Hiking the Appalachian Trail,” from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Prospect Presbyterian Church, 115 Church St.The Corts and McPhail have hiked the trail, and Steve Cort completed the 2,200-mile trail in 2008.The presentation will include planning, hiking tips, demonstrations and photographs.For more information, call 724-865-2063.Notices of local upcoming news should be received by the Community Department one week in advance of the event.
