[naviga:h3]Liberty Bridge still closed for repairs[/naviga:h3]

PITTSBURGH — State transportation authorities say a major bridge into downtown Pittsburgh, closed after a construction fire, will remain closed an extra week for repairs.

The Liberty Bridge has been closed since Sept. 2, and PennDOT officials said it will remain closed until Sept. 19.

The fire began on plastic pipes and a construction tarp as crews were cutting steel as part of an $80 million reconstruction project. Authorities said the flames damaged a steel beam critical to the stability of the bridge, which spans the Monongahela River.

PennDOT district executive Dan Cessna says contractors were able to quickly obtain steel for repairs but couldn’t prepare it in time, so some is being shipped to two other fabricators. The repairs require 150 pieces of fabricated steel and 400 bolts.

[naviga:h3]Suspect in fatal shooting arrested[/naviga:h3]

PITTSBURGH — Authorities say a man wanted in a drive-by shooting outside a Western Pennsylvania bar that killed a man and injured two women last month has been arrested in Louisiana.

Allegheny County police said Sunday that 21-year-old Joshua Wardlaw was stopped by police in Louisiana for a traffic violation on Friday evening and was arrested.

Lt. Andrew Schurman said he was identified and arrested on the Pennsylvania homicide warrant and is lodged in the Lafayette Parish correctional center awaiting extradition.

Police had been seeking Wardlaw in the Aug. 6 shooting outside Saloon 136 in Monongahela that killed 27-year-old Jonathan Minnie of Belle Vernon and injured two 27-year-old women.
