Ann Therese (Hartman) O'Sullivan

Ann Therese (Hartman) O'Sullivan

Ann Therese (Hartman) O'Sullivan of Butler died Tuesday at the New Haven Court at Clearview, where she has lived for the past six years.

Ann was a resident of Butler for nearly all of her 94 years, raising her family just blocks from where she herself was raised.

She was born March 1, 1922, to William and Katherine Hartman. She was an identical twin to the late Sheila (Raymond) Stehle. Their identity as twins was a fact that they cherished throughout their lives, and they accomplished many things together.

Ann was the last remaining member of her immediate family of nine children, which also included her sisters, Margaret, Katherine and Louise Hartman and Elizabeth Keller, and her brothers, Edward, Philip and James Hartman.

She was a lifelong member of Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church. She celebrated many sacraments in the church and it provided a foundation in her life and that of her family. When she celebrated her 90th birthday, she was pleased to mark the occasion with Mass at Saint Paul's with many of her extended family in attendance.

Ann attended Saint Paul's School in Butler and graduated from Butler High School. She and her twin attended the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, where they became registered nurses. Both were veterans of World War II, serving along with their sister, Libby, as U.S. Army nurses stationed in England. Their service of caregiving was a constant throughout their lives, always looking out for the needs of others.

Ann was married to Eugene J. O'Sullivan until his death in 1979. They were the proud and loving parents of nine children. More than anything else, her life was centered on raising her children to have strong family values with kindness and generosity toward others. She did this mostly through her own example.

Eight of her children survive her, Karin (John) Lasichak, Margaret (David) Barnhart-Neigh, Elizabeth (Jeff) Orsborn, all of Butler, Eugene (Saundra) O'Sullivan and Timothy (Sheila) O'Sullivan, both of Pittsburgh, Mary Eileen O'Sullivan of Gaithersburg, Md., Thomas O'Sullivan of Medina, N.Y., and Edward O'Sullivan of Indiana, Pa. She will be missed by 22 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great- great-grandchild and many special nieces and nephews.

Her daughter, Sheila O'Sullivan Dausch, predeceased her.

Ann never missed the opportunity to greet someone with a kind word or a listening ear, and she delighted in the company of her family.
