Martha N. McLachlan

Martha N. McLachlan, a lifelong resident of Slippery Rock, died Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

Born Aug. 22, 1955, in Grove City, she is survived by her companion of many years, Gerald Berry of Grove City; two sisters, Joan McLachlan of Centerville, Mass., and Marilyn McLachlan (Douglas) Barney of Dunn, N.C.; her brother, J. Richard (Ethel) McLachlan of Grove City; her nieces, Robyn (Barney) Zinn, Tara (Barney) Roberts, Meghan Douglas-Hellyer, Kodi L. McLachlan and Mary E. McLachlan; and her nephews, Richard Barney and W. Matthew Douglas.

Martha was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Richard McLachlan and Elizabeth G. Thompson McLachlan.

Ms. McLachlan was a graduate of Slippery Rock University and retired from teaching English in 2011 at Laurel High School in New Castle.

She found great joy summering on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts and spending time on the beach in Siesta Key, Fla. Martha will be remembered for her sense of humor, quick wit, love of dance and music and fondness for all animals.

MCLACHLAN — An informal memorial service for Martha N. McLachlan, who died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, will be later.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Butler County Humane Society, www.butlercountyhs.org.Arrangements are being handled by the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
