State of Emergency in ConnellsvilleCONNELLSVILLE — A Fayette County city has declared a state of emergency due to flooding that dumped more than 5 inches of rain on the area within two hours on Sunday night.Connellsville Mayor Greg Lincoln made the declaration and the city council imposed a 7:30 p.m. curfew for certain areas due to lack of electricity, looting and impassable roads.Lincoln said at least a dozen people had been rescued in the city since late Sunday.The Connellsville Area School District was closed Monday and its doors will remain closed today and Wednesday.A spokesman for the Red Cross of Western Pennsylvania said they don’t know how many people have been displaced by flooding.

Mold could close school for 3 weeksENOLA — A central Pennsylvania high school could remain closed for three weeks because of mold, though district officials are hopeful that two other schools will open sometime this week.All schools in the East Pennsboro school district failed to open as scheduled last week while crews worked to remove mold. A testing company blamed the growth on extreme humidity and rain over the summer and a lack of air conditioning.Officials are hoping the district’s middle school and two elementary schools will open this week if tests show the air quality has improved. The district is working with the state Department of Education on an alternative schedule for the high school.
