Peter J Oesterling, 59, a resident of Slippery Rock and Baltimore, Ohio, died July 19 in Akron, Ohio, following a motorcycle accident.

Peter was preceded in death by his brother Matthew; and his father, the former State Senator Donald O. Oesterling.

He is survived by his mother, Ann McDowell Oesterling; his wife, Judy; his son, Peter J Oesterling Jr.; his daughter, Kristin Bowers; his brother, Michael J. Oesterling; his sister, Dawn Prebula; his grandchildren, Riley and Harper Tiedemann; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Peter graduated from Hershey High School, Slippery Rock University and received his Juris Doctor at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash. He recently retired from Nationwide Insurance, where he was an associate vice president.

Peter was also very philanthropic. After serving six years on the SRU Council of Trustees, Peter helped establish the McDowell-Phillips-Oesterling Football Scholarship and the Peter J. Oesterling Family Scholarship.

OESTERLING — A remembrance for Peter Oesterling of Slippery Rock and Baltimore, Ohio, who died Tuesday July 19, 2016, will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Butler Elks. There will then be another remembrance at 7 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Four S Club in Columbus, Ohio.In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Peter's honor to the Peter J.
