LeRoy K. Montag

LeRoy K. Montag, 73, of Homosassa, Fla., passed away suddenly Friday morning.

Roy was born in 1943, in Butler County, and was the son of the late Kenneth V. Montag and the late Alice L. (Anderson) Montag.

Roy was a 1961 graduate of Knoch High School and attended Grove City College for a year, before being selected to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. He graduated from the Academy in 1966 and served in the Merchant Marine, hauling munitions to Vietnam. He accepted a commission in the Navy and was an aviator, piloting P-3 aircraft.

After his discharge from the Navy, he piloted C-130 cargo and DC-8 charter passenger aircraft for Trans America. He worked in the United Kingdom from 1992 to 2002, when he returned to the United States and moved into the Montag family home in Jefferson Center, Pa. He worked for USIS for several years and Lifesteps in Butler before his retirement in May 2013, when he moved to Florida.

A man of faith, Roy was an avid gardener and beloved by all for his kindness, generosity and sense of humor.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Frances Montag; his sons, Ty (Debora) Montag of Grove City, Ohio, and Heath (Hope) Montag of Hilton Head, S.C.; his daughter, Amy Evans of Pittsburgh; two granddaughters; three nieces; and two nephews. He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne (Jan) Montag of West River, Md., and Dennis (Patty) Montag of DuBois.

MONTAG — A memorial service for LeRoy K. Montag, who died Friday, July 22, 2016 will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Cabot.In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, PA 16023.
