Netta Alfreda Owens

Netta Alfreda Owens

Netta Alfreda Owens, 70, of Butler died Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

Netta was born Jan. 4, 1946, to Anthony J. and Alfreda Owens, who also had one son, David Owens.

She graduated in 1964 from North Allegheny High School. She attended Lake Erie College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968.

Netta was a beautiful and intelligent individual who had a deep passion for art. This passion led her to obtain a Master of Arts degree in fine arts in 1979 from the University of Pittsburgh with the hope of one day being a curator in a museum.

Netta is a former United flight stewardess, who had the opportunity to travel to many wonderful places around the world. Netta also worked in her family's business, the A.J. Owens Engraving Co., once located in the Clark Building in downtown Pittsburgh, then for J.A. Coates Educational Associates, preparing seminars in the fine arts for high school systems.

Netta was very artistic, loving to draw and paint. Unfortunately, mental illness took its toll on this vivacious woman. Despite her battle with mental illness, she still enjoyed shopping and wearing beautiful clothes.

She spent much of her last years of her life at Washington Manor and enjoyed walking the streets of downtown Butler.

Her father, Anthony J. Owens; her mother, Alfreda Owens; her brother, David Owens; and her cousin, Florence Eble, all preceded her in death.

She is survived by three cousins, Jill Pietrowski, Darlene Koury and Kim Pietrowski.

Her attorney, Edward J. Kress, who helped Netta later in life, would like to personally thank the VNA Hospice for the wonderful care of Netta.
