Brian Minto’s farewell fight against Guyula Bozai of Szigethalom, Hungary, at Kelly Automotive Park will be held Sept. 17 with the fight card beginning at 5 p.m.

The card will feature several amateur bouts and three pro fights, capped by Minto’s cruiserweight clash with Bozai.

[naviga:h3]SRU track and field gets academic honor[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University women’s track and field team and nine SRU individual track and field athletes have received all-academic honors for the 2016 season.

For a team to be recognized, the entire squad must have a cumulative grade point average above 3.0. Individuals must maintain a GPA above 3.25 and reach at least a NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

Rock individuals honored are Sabrina Anderson, Kaitlyn Clark, Jenny Picot, Sam Taylor and Leah Anne Wirfel from the women’s squad, Jeremy Parsons, Jacob VanHouten and JJ Ollio from the men.

The awards are from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

[naviga:h3]Teixeira will retire at season’s end[/naviga:h3]

NEW YORK — Mark Teixeira plans to retire at the end of the season, announcing his decision during a tear-filled news conference Friday at Yankee Stadium.

Slowed by injuries, the 36-year-old switch-hitting first baseman is batting .198 with 10 homers and 27 RBIs. A three-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove winner, he is in the final season of a $180 million, eight-year contract. His 404 home runs are fifth among switch-hitters, trailing only Mickey Mantle (536), Eddie Murray (504), Chipper Jones (468) and Carlos Beltran (415).
