PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police Chief Cameron McLay has asked the city’s Office of Municipal Investigations to review his Democratic National Convention speech last week.

McLay asked for the investigation Monday because the police union has accused him of violating the city code, which says police aren’t supposed to make political statements in uniform or otherwise engage in politics.

McLay has defended the speech, saying he avoided endorsing any political candidate or viewpoint.
