Wayne Franklin Deaner

Wayne Franklin Deaner, 75, of Saxonburg passed away Sunday.

He was born March 7, 1941, on Whitehorse Mountain in Berlin, Pa., Somerset County. He was the son of the late Richard E. Deaner and Emma Grace (Coleman), both of Berlin.

He was married June 24, 1961, to Donna L. (McCurdy). They had just celebrated 55 memorable years of marriage.

Wayne served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from Dec. 30, 1959, to Dec. 28, 1963.

He worked for Pullman Standard in Butler and at Oberg Manufacturing in Freeport. He then worked for Penn United Technologies and retired from there in 2005 after 30 years.

Wayne will be remembered as an enthusiastic outdoorsman who loved being in the woods enjoying the majesty of nature. He worked and volunteered for Jefferson Township and Laura J. Doerr Park. He had a true passion for the park and spent countless hours mowing and caring for the park for the betterment of the community.

He was an avid motorcyclist for more than 10 years and loved the freedom he felt when riding on a journey. He was a member of the Butler H.O.G. Chapter 4192 and most recently the Pittsburgh Harley Owners Group Chapter 2224. He traveled more than 115,000 miles on his bike to every state, including a trip in 2011 to the West Coast. Wayne participated in many benefit motorcycle rides, especially rides for veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of Saxonburg; his daughter, Brenda (Deaner) and her husband, Jeff Negley; grandchildren, Levi and Olivia of Freeport; his son, Bryan Deaner and his wife, Anne Greer, and her children, Sterling and Ava, of Portland, Ore. He also is survived by two brothers, Ronald Deaner and his wife, Donna, and Lynn Deaner and his wife, Marjorie; his sister-in-law, Kay Deaner; his sister-in-law, Linda McCurdy; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Darlene Knepper; and nieces, nephews and his many friends.

In addition to his parents and his in-laws, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Daniel L. Deaner; his brother, Larry E. Deaner; and his brother-in-law, Charlie K. McCurdy.
