BMH gets high marks in study

Health services are compared

Butler Memorial Hospital received four out of five stars from the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, as part of an annual comparison of hospitals across the country released Wednesday.

In a news release, CMS said the ratings reflect “comprehensive quality information about the care provided,” at hospitals and are based on 64 quality measures.

Butler Memorial received high marks for care in its emergency department, where CMS data reported patients spent less time and saw a doctor faster than other “high volume” hospital emergency rooms throughout the state.

CMS defines a high volume emergency room as one that sees between 40,000 and 60,000 patients per year.

Butler Memorial is one of a number of hospitals in the region to receive a 4-star ranking in the new ratings. Others include Grove City Medical Center in Mercer County, ACMH in Kittanning, UPMC Northwest in Seneca in Venango County, and The Washington Hospital in Washington County.

The lowest ranking in the state was received by Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, which received one star.
