PITTSBURGH — Two boys were found dead in a Pittsburgh fire that injured three other people, two critically.

Public safety spokesman Emily Schaffer said the boys who died were 7 and 12 years old. The fire was reported at 10:25 a.m. Monday in the Marshall-Shadeland neighborhood. The children who died were reportedly in the attic when the home caught fire. The cause of the blaze remained under investigation.

A 38-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy were rescued and taken to UPMC Mercy hospital in critical condition. A 16-year-old boy who also escaped was also being treated for smoke inhalation.

The names of the victims were not immediately released.

Two roofers working nearby and other witnesses reportedly tried to rescue some of those inside.

PALMYRA — Demolition has begun on six Pennsylvania homes that have sat empty since massive sinkholes opened up in 2013.

Palmyra officials say the demolition got under way Monday morning and they had been working with state and federal agencies to find a solution to the three condemned duplexes in Lebanon County.

Borough Manager Roger Powl told a TV station that officials decided to take out a $3 million loan to get the work started. Officials hope to begin repaving the street next month. The project is expected to take a few months.
