Alameda set for events this weekThe Butler County Parks and Recreation Department will host events this week at Alameda Park in Butler Township.Monday Movies in the Park will show “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” at 8:30 p.m. Monday on the big screen at the Masonic Shelter. The movie and popcorn are free.The free Family Summer Concert Series will feature the Kittanning Fireman's Band at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Odd Fellows Gazebo.School Daze will feature Butler School District Wednesday at Alameda Waterpark. Students will receive half-off admission by wearing clothing with their school name or logo or by presenting school identification. Different schools are featured weekly.The free Outdoor Discovery Series will offer “Let There Be Slime!” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carousel Shelter.The Moonlight Swim and Dive-In Movie will be from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at Alameda Waterpark and include a showing of “Sandlot.” There will be a fee for nonmembers.A free family dog and nature walk will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday and start from the Carousel Shelter. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs must be on leashes no longer than four feet and handlers must clean up after their dogs.For details, call parks and recreation at 724-284-5383.
Family barbecue to benefit Alliance The Butler County Alliance for Children will have its second annual family barbecue fundraiser at 4 p.m. Aug. 4 at the McDanel's Boat Launch, Pavilion 7, at Moraine State Park, 118 North Shore Drive, Portersville.The event will feature live entertainment, a pig roast and family and children's activities.Tickets are available at www.butlercountycac.org or at the event.
