Martha Louise Sober Kerr
Although we are sad to announce the passing of Martha Louise Sober Kerr, we are celebrating her wonderful 91.5 years of life.
Martha went to be with her Lord and loved ones Monday while in the company of family members at Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia.
Martha was born in Tarentum on Jan. 29, 1925. She was the daughter of the late Frances and Voss Sober. She was the product of two Polish immigrants and was very proud of her heritage.
Martha was the widow of F. Louis Kerr, who passed away in 1982.
Martha was a lifelong Freeporter. She was a 1942 graduate from Freeport High School and organized her class reunion for many years.
Martha was a lifetime member of St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport and was a member of the choir for many years.
She had worked as a clerk at Camerlo's Grocery Store and Camerlo's Deli in Freeport for over 20 years.
She was a member of the “Greatest Generation,” lived through the Great Depression and had been evacuated from her home by boat during the 1936 flood.
During World War II, she was a “Rosie the Riveter” at Allegheny Ludlum Steel No. 11 Shop. She volunteered with the Freeport Meals on Wheels and the St. Vincent DePaul store in Vandergrift for many years. Martha was a longtime member of the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Martha is survived by children, Colleen and Keith Crytzer of Freeport; Cindy Gamblin and Greg of Harwick; Cheryl Kerr and Russell Sharpsteen of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Louis and Brenda Kerr of Pocasset, Mass.; Patrick and Shelly Kerr of Freeport; Herbert and Eileen Kerr of Allegheny Township; and Terrence “Terry” Kerr, of Indiana, Pa.
Martha also is survived by her 13 lucky grandchildren, Matt and Jodi Crytzer, Gayle and Jason Furer, Casey and Mandy Crytzer, Zachary and Jenny Gamblin, Mallory Gamblin, Hadley Kerr, Sarah Kerr, Taylor and Ben Edwards, Allison and Greg Brenckle, Stephen Kerr and Kayla, Kayla and Matt Lang, Timothy Kerr, and Tyler Kerr and Ashley.
Martha is also survived by her 22 great-grandchildren, and her brother and sisters-in-law, Herb and Mart Kerr, Gary and Dee Kerr, and Jean Sober.
She was preceded by her brother, John Sober; her two sisters, Helen Pesci and Virginia Petruzziello; and her dear family friends, Wayne and Mary Catherine Ohl.
