Concordia boosts hospice services in southwest PA

CABOT — Concordia Lutheran Ministries has partnered with Washington Health System to expand hospice care services in Washington and Greene counties.

The Butler County-based senior care provider announced the partnership of its Concordia Community Support Services (CCSS) division and Washington Health System in a deal that will create Concordia Hospice of Washington.

The new company will offer end-of-life care in homes as well as inpatient and respite care at the Donnell House in Washington.

CCSS already oversees the operations of Concordia Visiting Nurses, Concordia Private Care, Good Samaritan Hospice and VNA Alliance, said Martin Trettel, president of CCSS, in a press release Wednesday.

“The partnership’s main focus is to provide quality hospice care to those who have a serious illness. Concordia Hospice of Washington will provide physical, emotional and spiritual end-of-life hospice care and support,” Trettel said.

Three board members from Washington Health System will serve on the Concordia Hospice of Washington board. They are Gary Weinstein, president and chief executive officer, Brook Ward, executive vice president/chief operating officer, and Regina Davin, associate nurse executive.

In addition to Trettel, other board members include Keith Frndak, president and CEO, Concordia Lutheran Ministries; Karen McCreary, chief operating officer of CCSS; Misty Ingram, compliance and ethics manager of CCSS; Tammy Young, chief financial officer, of CCSS, and Jamie Burke, director of operations, Good Samaritan Hospice, a mission of Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

Concordia administrators called the partnership a significant expansion of services for terminally-ill patients in the region.

“Our focus at Concordia Hospice of Washington is to provide services that offer comfort, peace, and dignity for our patients with incurable illnesses, and for their families,” said Frndak.

In September 2015, Concordia Visiting Nurses partnered with the Washington Health System, the Butler Health System in Butler County, the Heritage Valley Health System in Beaver County and St. Clair Hospital in the South Hills of Pittsburgh to provide patients in the hospital a transition from the hospital back into their homes.

Concordia has 13 locations in nine counties in Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio.
