Doubletree hotel invests millions for renovations, upgrades
MARSHALL TWP. Allegheny County — The owners of the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Pittsubrgh-Cranberry say they have spent millions of dollars renovating the building.
The former Four Points by Sheraton hotel was sold in 2015 and rebranded as a Doubletree by Hilton hotel.
The new ownership group includes the Elmhurst Group, DiCicco Development and Prospera Hospitality.
Renovations started nine months ago and include the lobby, restaurant, indoor/outdoor pool, meeting rooms, ballroom and parking lot. The rooms recently had been redone by the previous ownership, but the bedding and lighting will soon be upgraded too.
“We’ve taken everything back to the walls. Everything has been blown up and redone,” said Don Andrezjwski, vice president of sales and marketing for Prospera.
The renovations to the ballroom and connected space started in October 2015 and were finished in January. At 13,440 square feet, it is the second largest ballroom space in Western Pennsylvania and is able to seat 900 people for dinner.
The hotel also expanded its connected prefunction space to 5,460 square feet. That is often used as a reception area or an area to serve hors d’oeuvres.
In addition to trade shows and conventions, the hotel expects to host about 50 weddings each year and can host two weddings at the same time.
The restaurant is being totally redone and expanded. Hotel management expects it to be attractive not only to guests, but to Cranberry Township residents too.
“This is going to be a major draw for the local community,” Andrezjwski said.
The renovated bar will have 24 beers on tap, a unique wine preservation and dispensing system, and a stone-hearth oven. A name for the new restaurant, which is expected to open Aug. 1, has yet to be announced.
Seven conference rooms on the first floor have been renovated and equipped with new technology for business meetings.
Other work includes resurfacing of the indoor-outdoor pool and the pool deck, creating a new and improved health club area, adding landscaping, painting the building, and repaving the parking lot.
The hotel, built in 1985, has 189 rooms.
