Joyce M. (Sedwick) Shannon

Joyce M. (Sedwick) Shannon, 88, of Cabot, formerly of Kittanning, passed away Monday at Good Samaritan Hospice of Concordia in Cabot.

She was the daughter of George L. Sedwick Sr. and Bernice M. (Brownell) Sedwick and was born Nov. 19, 1927, in Kittanning.

She graduated from Kittanning High School and attended Penn State. She was an active member of the Grace Presbyterian Church, serving as elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member.

Over the years she was active in several community organizations such as, the Pine Hill/East Franklin PTA, the Rotary International Auxiliary and the Kittanning Free Library.

She was a professional homemaker for her family and an adept hostess for her many friends. She enjoyed sewing, playing bridge and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons, the Rev. R. Bruce (Anne) Shannon Jr. of Marion Center, Pa., Donald G. (Mary) Shannon of Rattigan, Pa., and James S. (Laurie) Shannon of Austin, Texas.

She also is survived by her grandchildren, George N. (Nee) Shannon, Joyce S. (David) Pickles, Andrea A. (Joseph) Cocco, Lorena B. Shannon (her fiance, Marcello Vega), Ashley S. (Michael) Cousineau, Grant S. Shannon and Natalie S. (Andrew) Virdell, along with great-grandsons, Angelo and Dominick Cocco and Dominic Pickles; her sister-in-law, Dorothy (Donald) Sedwick; her brother-in-law, William Shannon; and her beloved “niece,” Georgia Parker. She is also survived by five nieces and five nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert Bruce “R.B.” Shannon Sr.; her brothers, George L. (Sally) Sedwick Jr. and Donald J. (Dot) Sedwick; and her granddaughter, Katie Shannon.

SHANNON — Family and friends of Joyce M. (Sedwick) Shannon, who died Monday, May 30, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning. Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dana Wilmot officiating.
