Saxonburg gets off to 9-1 start

Saxonburg remained hot in Butler County legion baseball play Sunday night, sweeping a doubleheader from Center Township at Kelly Automotive Park.

Saxonburg (9-1) won the games by scores of 7-2 and 11-4.

Logan Hickey and Derek McGill combined for nine strikeouts on the mound to win Game 1. Dom Bucko had two triples and three RBI, P.J. Gourley two doubles and two RBI.

Gourley, Garrett Traggiai, Bucko and Jeremy Frazier combined for a three-hitter and struck out 13 in the nightcap. Jeff Smolen had a double and two singles for Saxonburg while Mike McCarty hit a three-run homer. Traggiai and Frazier had two hits each.

Cranberry Township splits DH — Cranberry tallied eight hits in a 7-5 win in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at Kiski.

In the first game, Kiski’s Tyler Baum pitched a 3-hit shutout in a 2-0 victory.
