[naviga:h3]Boy, 15, dies from shooting accident[/naviga:h3]

PITTSBURGH — Authorities say a 15-year-old boy who was shot while he and his father were target shooting in the yard of their home has died.

Emergency responders were called to the Allegheny Township residence Friday evening.

Police chief John Fontaine has said Nicholas Ursiny was apparently trying to reload a small-caliber pistol when it accidentally discharged and hit him in the head.

The medical examiner says he died at the hospital Sunday afternoon. An autopsy is planned today.

Charges aren’t expected to be filed.

PITTSBURGH — A deer that wandered into downtown Pittsburgh has been shot and killed.

Public safety officials said reports began coming in Sunday that a deer was seen running around downtown streets.

The police department’s animal care and control unit officers responded but didn’t have tranquilizers.

Police said they tried to contact animal control resources, including the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Pittsburgh Zoo, but were unable to get immediate assistance.

Public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said police feared the deer would run onto a busy roadway. Toler said the animal was put down shortly before 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

[naviga:h3]Driver who drove into river has died[/naviga:h3]

PITTSBURGH — Authorities say a driver rescued from a car that plunged into a Pittsburgh river last month has died.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said 58-year-old Richard Smith was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon at UPMC Mercy.

Police are still investigating how Smith ended up in the river. An autopsy is planned.
