Richard R. Berry Sr.

Richard R. Berry Sr., 90, of Prospect and formerly of Southington, Conn., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 29, 1925, in Pendleton, Ore., he was the son of the late Miles Arthur Berry and Margaret Esther (Gallagher) Berry. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elsa Victoria (Carlbert) Berry, and his half-sister, Esther Sylva.

He was survived by his sons, Richard R. Berry Jr. and Ronald and his wife, Laura (Heming) Berry, and his grandsons, Nathaniel and Joshua Berry, all of Prospect.

Dick spent many years working with the Salvation Army, and he spent his life ministering to others both in Connecticut and Pennsylvania, where he moved to be closer to his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church.

BERRY — Friends of Richard R. Berry Sr., who died Thursday, May 12, 2016, will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 2251 Prospect Road.A service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ben Oesterling, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army, Butler Corps, 313 W.
