Property tax rebate deadline extendedThe deadline to apply for the state’s 2015 Property Tax/Rent Rebate program has been extended from June 30 to Dec. 31 for eligible participants.Income eligibility limits are set at the following levels, excluding 50 percent of Social Security, supplemental security income and railroad retirement tier 1 benefits, The limits are:- Zero to $8,000 for a maximum $650 rebate for homeowners and renters.- $8,001 to $15,000 for a maximum $500 rebate for homeowners and renters.- $15,001 to $18,000 for a maximum $300 rebate for homeowners.- $18,001 to $35,000 for a maximum $250 rebate for homeowners.
Experts say oil price rise slowingLONDON — The price of oil is unlikely to rise much further after rallying almost 90 percent since January, as the global market shows signs of stabilizing, the International Energy Agency said today.The Paris-based agency, which advises the world’s top oil consuming nations, nudged up its estimate for global oil demand this year in its monthly report. It noted, however, that supply and past inventories remain high.“At halfway in 2016 the oil market looks to be balancing,” said the IEA in its monthly market report.After touching a 13-year low in January, the international price of oil has rallied to trade above $50 a barrel in recent days and has struggled to advance any further. Today, the Brent benchmark for international oil was down 56 cents at $49.79 a barrel.
Philly school plans $16M expansionPHILADELPHIA — A university in Philadelphia is poised to begin work on a $16 million expansion. Drexel University plans to begin expanding its nearly 60-year-old Korman Center classroom building today.Plans call for new green space around the building as well as 9,000 square feet of lounges and other common space inside.Drexel said the public space next to the building will be renamed the Korman Quadrangle. Large trees and paths will be installed on a bigger lawn.Construction is to be finished in the fall of 2017.The university said the project is funded partly by an $8 million donation from the Hyman Korman Family Foundation
