CENTER TWP — Future POS is in the early stages of developing a new site next to the Starlight Drive-In on Route 8.

The new location is 60 acres and will feature a 40,000-square-foot, three-story building.

“We’re about out of space,” said John Giles, Future POS president and co-owner, along with Kelly Giles. “That’s why we’re going big because we outgrew this one in five years.”

Future POS, founded in 1998, develops point-of-sale software for restaurants, such as quick serve, fine dining, retail and specialty applications.

The new campus may expand to three buildings with glass walkways connecting them.

“Basically we’re going to continue growing, so we anticipate the need for more space if the current trends hold true,” Giles said.

The campus also may include a day care facility and recreational facilities such as a walking trail around the perimeter, an outdoor basketball court and a soccer field. The new building will include men’s and women’s locker rooms, as well as a workout facility.

“The guys like to get out and exercise during lunch,” Giles said of his employees. “They sit at desks all day so you kind of have to make an investment in their health.”

The property’s topsoil is being stripped so 80,000 yards of dirt can be moved to the new Sheetz store that is being built across from Clearview Mall. Once that is done, the ground will be leveled, making a way for construction of the new Future POS.

The current location is a 12,000 square-foot building at 1737 N. Main St. Ext.

Giles also said Future POS is in talks with W.K. Thomas and Associates to do the construction, and estimated the cost of the project “in the neighborhood of $8.2 million.”

He also noted a company goal.

“Basically we want to put a fourth leg on that light at the end of Benbrook Road to connect Route 8 to Sunset Drive that will alleviate traffic on Mercer and Duffy roads,” Giles said. “But we need permits and a traffic study, which take over three months.”

Giles said Future POS is aiming to start construction on the new site in spring of 2017.

Center Township Supervisor Ronald Flatt is excited for the development.

“John Giles has purchased property in a correct zone to expand his business, and my own personal feeling is I think it’s very good for Center Township,” he said.
