EVANS CITY — Evans City schools, grades kindergarten to sixth, raised $18,452 for the ninth annual STOMP Out Cancer Walk on May 13.

More than 1,000 students and staff took turns walking around the building at different times throughout the day to raise money and awareness.

Many completed their walk carrying banners and signs and wearing messages on their T-shirts.

They gave the money to the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute on May 27 in a presentation ceremony.

STOMP participants have raised $122,203 over the past eight years with all money going to the institute for cancer research.

The walk is held in memory of two former teachers, Linda Saulle and Roy Waugaman, who died of cancer.

Saulle's husband, Tom, was at the presentation.
