John Wendell Bable
John Wendell Bable, 92, of Butler passed away Wednesday at VA Butler Healthcare.
He was born Sept. 30, 1923, in Ford Cliff, Pa., a son of the late John M. Bable and Mabel L. (Hill) Bable.
Wendell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 846th Ordnance Depot Co. in the South Pacific Theater.
He was employed by Butler Advertising and then retired from the boiler department of the Butler School District in 1990.
He enjoyed hunting, camping and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. “Peggy” Bable, who he married June 11, 1955; his brother-in-law, Roy Smathers of Kittanning; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Janie Duncan of Mercer, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katherine L. Bable; three sisters; and one brother.
BABLE — Friends of John Wendell Bable, who died Wednesday, April 20, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle St., Butler, with the Rev. David Maitland officiating.Private burial will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, Pa.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 117 Butler, the American Legion Post 778 Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 Butler will conduct military honors following the funeral service at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 221 W.
