Jason E. Sappe

Jason E. Sappe, 44, of Gilpin Township passed away Tuesday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Born May 6, 1971, in New Kensington, Pa., he was the son of Eugene and Linda (Warnick) Sappe of Gilpin Township, Pa.

Jason was employed for 17 years as a police officer for the Buffalo Township Police Department, Sarver.

He was a veteran with the U.S. Army, serving during the Persian Gulf War. Jason earned the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Badge, which qualified him as a specialist for the Army's preeminent tactical and technical explosives experts.

He was a licensed captain in the Western Waterways. Jason loved fishing, hunting, boating and cooking. He enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, enjoyed making his homemade wine and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Jason was Christian. He was a member of the American Legion Schenley Post 775, Schenley, Pa., a member of the Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators and a lifetime NRA member.

He was a 1989 graduate of Lenape Vocational/Technical School, Ford City, with a degree in welding. He also graduated from the U.S. Army Ordinance School and from Westmoreland County Community College, Youngwood, with an associate degree in criminal justice. He graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in criminal law, in which Jason was class valedictorian. He also graduated from the Indiana Police Academy Act 120 Program and became a firearms and tactical shooting instructor of NRA Law Enforcement and a firearms instructor through the Pennsylvania State Police.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sons, Levi Sappe (Shannon Cummins) of Hollywood, Md., Hunter Sappe of Gilpin Township and Alaric Sappe of Gilpin Township; his daughter, Jade Sappe of Greensburg; his sister, Julia Sappe Lindemuth (David) of Leechburg; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Helen (Rarie) Warnick of West Leechburg; and his partner and companion, Connie Kovach-Reesman of Gilpin Township.

SAPPE — Friends of Jason E. Sappe, who died Tuesday, April 19, 2016, will be welcomed by his family from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Clawson Funeral & Cremation Center, 170 Main St., Leechburg, where law enforcement will conduct a tribute service honoring Jason's memory at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.Funeral ceremonies will be at 10:45 a.m. Monday at the Forks-Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 253 Forks Church Road, Leechburg, with the Rev.
