Art Center volunteer receives service award
Terry Hagan, a longtime volunteer at The Butler Art Center, received a 2015 Jefferson Award presented May 5 in a ceremony at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh.
He received a bronze medallion for his service. He was one of 48 recipients in Western Pennsylvania.
Over his years at the Art Center, Hagan has served as general manager and board member and has managed day-to-day operations along with the website, e-mails, membership and renting out the center.
Hagan pointed out that the Art Center is operated by all volunteers and many people contribute to its success.
The Jefferson Awards were founded in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft Jr., and Sam Beard to honor unsung heroes of the United States. The program is named after founding father Thomas Jefferson, who reflected the spirit of excellence in America as an author of the Declaration of Independence, president of the country, and advocate for a free press and freedom of religion.
The Jefferson Award honors individuals for their achievements and contributions through public and community service.
