Griffins reach final day

Seton Hill won a pair of games Tuesday in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament at Kelly Automotive Park.

The Griffins (39-15) have more of a challenge awaiting them today, however.

After dropping the first game of the tournament Sunday, Seton Hill has now reeled off three straight wins. The Griffins followed up a 9-6 win over East Stroudsburg Tuesday morning with a 6-4 triumph over West Chester in the afternoon.

A four-run rally in the eighth inning — highlighted by Sam Mattei’s two-run game-tying single — produced the first victory. A 13-hit attack keyed the second win.

Zac Heide homered and had two RBI vs. West Chester while Anthony Fenelli and Mattei had three hits each. Tyler Morder worked seven innings on the mound for the win.

Seton Hill was scheduled to face West Chester again at 11 a.m. today in an elimination game. The winner faces defending champion Millersville (47-4) in the league title game at 2:30 p.m. at Kelly Automotive Park.

Millersville eliminated Mercyhurst (40-12) by posting a 6-3 victory Tuesday night. Jim McDade pitched a complete game, striking out five to improve to 10-0 on the season. Dan Neff homered for Millersville.

Hank Morrison had a pair of doubles for Mercyhurst.

The Lakers eliminated Gannon (31-17) earlier in the day, rallying from a two-run deficit with single tallies in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. Daniel Elliott homered in the sixth and Morrison’s solo blast in the eighth was the game-winner.
