Doris Cook Barger
In loving memory of Doris Cook Barger
It’s Mothers Day again,
And we’re trying to make it through,
Because this day reminds us,
Of all the things we miss about you.
We miss your face smiling at us,
With love shining from your eyes,
We miss the way you’d laugh at our silly jokes
So hard that it made you cry.
We miss the touch of your dear hands,
How gentle and kind they were.
And we miss the warmth of your hugs,
And how you’d wrap us up tight as could be.
We miss the smell of your perfume,
The way it lingered in the air.
Sometimes we think we smell it again,
And we get a sense that you’re there.
We miss the way you could always tell
When something in our lives had gone wrong,
How you’d talk to us until we felt better,
Your words soothed us like a song.
And so we sit here once again
Remembering these things we miss
And this year, just like every year,
We make a silent wish.
To live our best life as you taught us
So one day, you will take our hand securely in yours,
And in Heaven we will all live together again.
