The Collectors
Zelda Wilbert will discuss her art collecting in her presentation “The Cat's Meow” at 7 p.m. May 19, as part of the Maridon Museum's series “The Collectors.”
The series features residents talking about their art collections.
These “show and tell” presentations include objects with stories that reflect the interest of the collectors.
Wilbert, of Butler, said she started her journey collecting all things feline in 1982, when she adopted a 3-year-old black cat.
In her travels around the world, she began collecting feline art that she finds whimsical, amusing or unusual.
Those items include a bronze sculpture by artist Sergio Bustamente from Mexico, an oil painting on wood called “Gato con Alas,” or “Cat with Wings,” by Manuel Adria from Spain, a replica of a tiger bought at the Shaanxi History Museum in Beijing, and a Cathy Guss scrimshaw necklace.
Wilbert said she has about 200 pieces in her collection and will be taking along her favorites for her May presentation at the Maridon at 322 N. McKean St.
Admission is free, but reservations are required. Call 724-282-0123. This is the final installment of “The Collectors” for the season.
