Robert E. 'Bob' McCandless
Robert E. “Bob” McCandless, 79, of Slippery Rock passed away at 3:15 a.m. Sunday at the Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.
Bob was born Dec. 24, 1936, in Clay Township.
He was the son of the late Donald E. and Ethel M. Ralston McCandless. He lived and worked on the family farm his entire life.
Bob had a great memory and could remember the names and birthdays of his many family members. He enjoyed working with the farm animals, including his dog, many cats, chickens and rabbits.
Bob was a life member of St. John's United Methodist Church on Hallston Road, Slippery Rock. He had one of the best attendance records during the past 60 years.
Surviving are his sister, Nellie McCandless Arblaster of Slippery Rock, and his brother, Donald E. (Shirley) McCandless of West Sunbury. Also surviving are his two aunts, Myrtle McCandless Johnston of Chicora and Mildred Ralston Bell of Ohio; his uncle, Kenneth Ralston of Slippery Rock; his special cousin, who was like a brother, Donald Snow and his family of West Sunbury; and many nieces, nephews, stepnieces, stepnephews, cousins and their children and grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, William Arblaster; and one great-niece, Katherine Joan Schalk.
MCCANDLESS — Friends of Robert E. “Bob” McCandless, who died Sunday, April 3, 2016, will be received at from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. John's United Methodist Church, Hallston Road, Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Jean Smith, his pastor, officiating.
