Sandusky seeks hearing on appealBELLEFONTE — Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky is expected in a courtroom near his State College home as he continues to pursue appeals of his 45-count conviction for child sexual abuse.Judge John Cleland will hear arguments today from prosecutors and Sandusky’s attorneys as the 72-year-old state prison inmate seeks a hearing in which he can present evidence that supports his claim that he was wrongly convicted.Sandusky wants his charges thrown out or to be granted a new trial. He’s serving a 30- to 60-year sentence at Greene state prison for abuse of 10 boys.

Natural gas pipeline blast investigatedGREENSBURG — Authorities are trying to find out what caused a natural gas pipeline explosion in that destroyed one home, damaged at least three others and burned a fleeing homeowner.Officials in Westmoreland County said the 30-inch Texas Eastern transmission line burst open around 8:15 a.m. Friday in Salem Township.Spectra Energy said in a statement Saturday that the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is investigating. Two parallel pipelines are being drained of natural gas, which should be done by the end of the day.

CMU cafe cleaned after 40 become illPITTSBURGH — A cafe on the campus of Carnegie Mellon University in has been closed for cleaning after more than 40 people reported becoming ill after eating there last week.La Prima Espresso closed its location at the Pittsburgh school’s campus Friday after students and two employees reported nausea, vomiting and diarrhea beginning Monday and Tuesday.CMU said in a statement that the decision was made by CMU Dining Services and La Prima Espresso in consultation with the Allegheny County health department. The cafe had posted a notice Wednesday saying it was pulling some food items.
