John Joseph Deitz

John Joseph “Jack” Deitz, 78, of East Brady passed away Saturday at Allegheny Valley Hospital.

He was born Dec. 17, 1937, in Roseville, Armstrong County, the son of Samuel Simon Deitz and Ella Marie (Crawford) Deitz.

Jack attended Kaylor School and earned his GED from Karns City High School in 1958.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army and Air Force for 21 years, completing two tours in Korea and one in Japan.

Upon returning, Jack worked as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, working in the Butler office for 13 years and the Petrolia office for one year, before retiring in 1999.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church and was a Freemason. He belonged to the Grand Lodge of the Philippines and the Moriyama Lodge of Kunitachi, Japan. Jack was also a member of the American Legion Post 488 of Bradys Bend and a life member of the VFW Post 7876 of Chicora. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and Tony Stewart was his favorite driver.

Jack loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he will be best remembered for his willingness to help others.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Ida Lorraine (Early) Deitz, whom he married April 9, 1959; his son, Samuel Deitz and his wife, Tammy, of Bradys Bend; his daughters, Patricia Deitz and her companion, Harley Flick, of Chicora, and Kimberly Sleigher and her husband, Gerald, of Rimersburg; his stepson, Robert Russell and his wife, Marie, of Bradys Bend; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his brother, George Deitz and his companion, Pamela Bellis, of Bradys Bend; and his sister, Kathryn Foringer, of East Brady.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Jonathan S.A. Deitz, who died July 28, 2012; his brother, Clarence Deitz; and his infant sister, Daisy Deitz.

DEITZ — The family of John Joesph “Jack” Deitz, who died Saturday, March 26, 2016, will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 758 Main St., Rimersburg.Additional visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the blessing service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev.
