Elizabeth Baptiste
Elizabeth M. “Betty” Baptiste, 87, formerly of Chicora Road, passed away Saturday afternoon at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.
Born Sept. 20, 1928, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Theodore W. Miller and Mary (Smith) Miller.
Betty had been the tax collector for Oakland Township from 1966 to 1987. Before that, she worked for the Workingmans Building and Loan from 1953 to 1957 and also was a bookkeeper for Mellon Bank from 1946 to 1952.
She was a member of St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church and was a former member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Oakland. She was a member of St. Joseph's Christian Mothers and had enjoyed crocheting, bingo, reading and baking.
Surviving are her four daughters, Joyce (William) Geibel of Butler, Jacqueline (Edward) Cashmere of Fenelton, Nancy (Richard) Parker of Butler and Teresa (James) Motko of Butler; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (David) Thompson, Jason (Kristi) Cashmere, Renae (Chris) Bogdan, Kristen (Dan) Hilliard, Ryan Parker, Sarah Motko and Kevin Motko; six great-grandchildren, Carson, Charlotte, Makenna, Cooper, Hailey and Brandon; one sister, Jane Goehring of Rochester, Pa.; and one brother, Paul E. (Mamie) Miller of Chicora.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Baptiste, who she married June 14, 1950. He died Sept. 21, 2012.
BAPTISTE — Friends of Elizabeth M. Beatty Baptiste, who died Saturday, March 26, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, Carbon Center. The Rev. Matthew McClain, pastor, will officiate.
