NORRISTOWN — Lawyers for Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane say she was unfairly targeted over a grand jury leak by “vindictive” political rivals.

Kane’s lawyers have filed a motion Wednesday to dismiss her criminal leak case based on “selective and vindictive prosecution.”

Kane is leaving office this year after having her law license suspended.

The Democrat is accused of leaking secret grand jury material to a newspaper to embarrass rivals and lying about it under oath.

Defense lawyers in a motion say “leaks of grand jury material are not uncommon” but prosecutions are “extraordinary.”

Montgomery County Commissioner Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, and state Sen. John Rafferty, a Republican, won Tuesday’s primaries and will square off in November to succeed Kane.
