Clair E. Biddle

Clair E. Biddle, 93, of Butler passed away Tuesday at the Concordia at the Orchard.

He was born July 24, 1922, in Lawrence County, to the late John S. Biddle and Helen (White) Biddle.

Clair was a graduate of Princeton High School. He then went on to attend and graduate from Bliss Electrical School in Washington, D.C. Clair was an electrician's mate first class during World War II in the U.S. Navy, serving in Newport, R.I., Algeria, Bizerte, Tunisia, and Naples, Italy. He was an electrical engineer for Bell Telephone for 42 years.

Clair and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited 49 states and their capitals. He owned and operated an apple orchard on Mercer Road from 1949 until his death. Clair volunteered at the Covenant Cupboard Food Bank. He was a member of the Faith United Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon.

He is survived by two sons, Edward Biddle and his wife, Barb, of West Sunbury and Jim Biddle and his wife, Terri, of Glenville; five daughters, Dorothy Wallace and her husband, Don, of Slippery Rock, Janet Hancock of Butler, Pauline Lee and her husband, John, of Marietta, Ohio, Marilyn Clarke and her husband, Andy, of Tigerville, S.C., and Donna Biddle and her husband, Steve Benesch, of Kearney, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Young of New Castle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Pauline (Brown) Biddle, who he married Sept. 7, 1946, and who passed away May 21, 1998; and two brothers.

BIDDLE — Friends of Clair E. Biddle, who died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Further visitation will be at 6 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. at the Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N. Main St., Butler, with the Rev. Donald Aull, pastor, officiating.Private burial will take place at the Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N.
