Regis Lloyd McElhaney
Regis Lloyd McElhaney, 84, of Butler passed away at 9:10 p.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 20, 1931, in Imperial, Pa., to the late Franklin McElhaney and Irma (Primez) McElhaney.
Regis was a member of the Meridian United Presbyterian Church. He has served as an elder, trustee and a Sunday school teacher, and he participated in Bible studies. He served as treasurer at the White Oak Springs Church.
Regis graduated in 1950 from West Allegheny High School. Regis was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956.
He worked in farming on Treesdale Farms and then worked maintenance at the Butler School District for more than 24 years.
Regis worked with Meals on Wheels, the Community Meals and the Butler Community Food Cupboard. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and crossword puzzles.
Regis is survived by his wife, JoAnn (McCoy) McElhaney, whom he married Aug. 22, 1952; two sons, Randall A. McElhaney of Centreville, Va., and Douglas D. McElhaney and his wife, Diane, of Butler; two daughters, Barbara A. Stopenski and her husband, Stanley, of The Villages, Fla., and Cynthia K. Blair and her husband, Daniel, of Danville, Va.; five grandchildren, Katie Thayer and her husband, Jonathan, of Haymarket, Va., Laura C. McElhaney of Ashburn, Va., Shannon Harrison and her husband, Brandon, of Toledo, Ohio, Rebecca Stopenski of Glen Mills, Pa., and Stephen Stopenski of Camden, N.J.; one great-grandson, Wesley Harrison; two sisters-in-law, Doris McElhaney and Delores “Tinie” McElhaney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth James “Buck” McElhaney; his brother, Franklin Leopold “John” McElhaney; his sister, Viola Marie “Liza” Cain and her husband, Art; his brother, Charles Nelson “Charlie” McElhaney; his brother, Leon Guy “Guy” McElhaney; his sister, Delpha Winona “Tillie” Hughes and her husband, Clair; his sister, Almeida Ursula “Dina” Burns and her husband, Ed; his brother, John Emerson Gaynor “Joe” McElhaney; and his brother, Donald Alvin “Tut” McElhaney.
MCELHANEY — Friends of Regis Lloyd McElhaney, who died Saturday, March 19, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., Butler, with the Rev. Stephen M.
