Shine On event raises $20,000

Michelle Rock, Alexis Dumbaugh and Jenna Pershing gather at the Shine On fundraising event on Saturday. Both Rock and Pershing have been diagnosed with breast cancer, and Dumbaugh organized the event, which raised $20,000.

CENTER TWP — The Shine On fundraising event for two women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer and are affiliated with Center Township Elementary School raised $20,000 Saturday night.

Shine On was held in honor of kindergarten teacher Jenna Pershing and PTO President Michelle Rock, who both have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The event was organized by Alexis Dumbaugh of Center Township and her fundraising organization Pink Lemonade. The Saturday night event included basket raffles, a live band, dancing and food from 7 p.m. to midnight at the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora.

The $20,000 will be divided between Pershing and Rock, with both women donating a portion to The Rapunzel Project, an organization that helps women keep their hair during chemotherapy through products called Cold Caps.

This was the first year for the event, but Dumbaugh routinely raises money for the Susan G. Komen organization, which aims to save lives and end breast cancer forever by funding the search for a cure.
