SRU takes electronics for recycling program
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University will collect electronics during its Community E-Waste Recycling program on Friday and Saturday at the school’s recycling center on Kiester Road.
Items including computers, televisions, cell phones, batteries from laptops and universal power supplies and other electronics can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. both days at the university’s Stores II facility. Dumpsters will be located in the parking lot.
The program is part of SRU’s Earth Days 2016 program and is aimed at keeping electronics out of landfills, where toxic waste could seep into the ground.
Unacceptable items include paint, oil, cleaning supplies, medications, light bulbs, dishwashers, refrigerators and air conditioning units.
Organizers are reminding participants to protect their personal information, and be sure that computer hard drives are removed and destroyed before the items are dropped off for collection.
