John R. Williams

John R. Williams, 90, of Buena Vista, Chicora, died Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia Home, Cabot.

He was born in Braddock, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Nov. 3, 1925, to Mr. and Mrs. James Rodger Williams.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II, and then he was a member of the National Guard. He was a member of the Chicora VFW.

After being discharged from the Navy, he worked at U.S. Steel in Braddock for 32 years as a laborer.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna I. Martin Williams, who he married Oct. 25, 1986; his daughters, Donna Schindler of Houston, Texas, Genevieve Davoli of Paige, Texas, and Darlene and John Miller of Slippery Rock; his sons, the Rev. Robert L. and Peggy Martin of Valencia and James G. and Cookie Martin of Parker; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, one grandson and one son-in-law.

WILLIAMS — Friends of John R. Williams, who died Sunday, March 20, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME, corner of Main and East Slippery Rock streets, Chicora.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with his son, the Rev. Robert L. Martin, officiating.
