Police say man tried to beat drug testing

A Butler Township man used a condom filled with clean urine in an attempt to pass a drug test last week, Butler County detectives said.

Shane Allen Nichols, 23, now is facing a criminal charge for trying to beat his mandatory test by using someone else’s urine.

The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when Nichols walked into the county’s adult probation office. A probation officer found the hidden condom with urine not his own.

Detectives on Thursday charged Nichols with attempting to furnish drug-free urine, a third-degree misdemeanor. He faces a preliminary hearing May 9 before District Judge William Fullerton in Butler.

Nichols was on probation in connection with a misdemeanor drug arrest last year, court records showed. Butler Township police in that case charged him with possession of a small amount or marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He was accepted into the county’s Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Program and placed on probation for two years.
