Baseball
It was another rough weekend for the Slippery Rock University baseball team.
The Rock (8-26, 3-15) suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Gannon Saturday, falling 11-3 in the first game and 2-0 in the nightcap.
In the first game, Gannon scored nine unanswered runs in the first four innings on the way to the rout.
Grove City High graduate Jon Anderson was tagged with the loss.
In the second game, Gannon scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.
Softball
Butler graduate Caitlin Baxter hit a solo home run in the fourth inning with two outs for the only run of the game as The Rock took the first game over nationally ranked California (Pa.) University, 1-0, before falling in the second game, 8-0.
Baxter’s blast made a winner out of Brooke Dawson, who struck out just one but scattered five hits.
It was only the second loss of the season for Cal (28-2, 15-1) and its first in the PSAC.
The Rock (19-18, 8-8) couldn’t make it a sweep with a lopsided loss in the nightcap.
SRU managed just two hits.
Cal scored all of its runs in the first two innings.
