Dorothy “Skip” Virginia Dignan Yoder, 93, formerly of Butler, died peacefully Feb. 19 in Denver, Colo.

She was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Rossyln Farms, Pa., to the late Ned and Marguerite Dignan.

She is survived by her five children Margo and Tracy Yoder of Denver, Cindy Yoder of Polk, Pa., John Yoder of Davis, Calif., and Heidi McClain of Boulder; her grandchildren Ned and Brad McClain, and Jack and Sam Yoder; her great-grandchildren, Claire and Ajax McClain; and her brother-in-law, Dana Chalfant of Gibsonia, Pa.

She was preceded in death by her two older sisters, Margo Chalfant and Jane Roehm; the father of her children, mushroom farm scion, John Yoder; and her son-in-law, Paul McClain.

Virginia faithfully attended Saint Peter's of Butler and All Saints' of Jensen Beach, Fla., Episcopal churches.

She graduated from Penn State University, and at the age of 55, received her Master of Arts in psychology from the University of Northern Colorado.

She was passionate about Paris, skiing, tennis, acting in Butler Little Theatre, writing poetry and the fresh air of the Atlantic Ocean. She had a strong appreciation for nature and loved being outdoors. A generous woman, Virginia enjoyed setting an elegant table for her family and friends. Her warm radiance touched many, and Virginia will be dearly missed.

YODER — Memorial contributions in honor of Dorothy V. Yoder, who died Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, may be made to the Special Olympics, 1133 19th Street NW, 12th Floor, Washington, D.C. 20036.The Horan and McConaty Funeral Service, Denver, Colo., assisted with the arrangements.
