[naviga:h3]Southern University students shot, killed[/naviga:h3]

BATON ROUGE, La. — Two 19-year-old women who were Southern University students and members of the school’s athletic program were shot and killed during an exchange of gunfire early Sunday outside a Baton Rouge apartment complex, police and university officials said.

Police arrested one of two men suspected of exchanging shots. Ernest Bernard Felton, 22, of Miami is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon in the shooting of a 24-year-old man who was at a hospital with wounds that aren’t considered life-threatening.

Investigators were awaiting results of ballistic analysis to determine who is responsible for fatally shooting Lashuntae Benton of Lake Charles and Annette January of Gary, Ind., police said.

[naviga:h3]Gas prices jump 8 cents in 3 weeks[/naviga:h3]

CAMARILLO, Calif. — The average price of gasoline has jumped by 8 cents over the past three weeks, to $2.10 a gallon for regular grade.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday the hike is due to gas stations raising prices nearly twice as much as refiners are raising wholesale gasoline prices.

She says prices will likely rise at a moderate pace as refiners continue to make higher-cost summer blend gasoline in compliance with federal regulations and as demand continues to rise.

[naviga:h3]California goat goes on Starbucks run[/naviga:h3]

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — Police say a goat apparently needed a caffeine fix when it wandered into a Starbucks in Northern California.

Rohnert Park police Sgt. Rick Bates says dispatchers received several calls Sunday morning about a goat named Milly wandering around a strip mall on the city’s eastern edge.

Bates says employees who were opening the Starbucks tried to give Milly a banana, but she walked past them and began chewing on a box.

Bates took Milly into custody and brought her to the animal shelter — but not before snapping photos of her sniffing around the Starbucks and posting them on the police department’s Facebook page.

He says word spread to Milly’s owner, and she has made it home.
